Professor David Greenaway
The University of Nottingham
David Greenaway took up the office of Vice-Chancellor of The University of Nottingham in October 2008. A Professor of Economics, he was previously a Pro-Vice-Chancellor of this University, and was the founding Director of the Leverhulme Centre for Research on Globalisation and Economic Policy in The School of Economics.
Professor Greenaway's current public duties include chairing the UK Armed Forces Pay Review Body, and he is also a member of the UK Senior Salaries Review Body. He has served as a consultant to the World Bank, the European Commission, the United Nations, General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, and HM Treasury.
He chaired the Economics and Econometrics Panel for the UK Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) in 2008, and has previously served on the UK Economic and Social Research Council. He is also Chair of the Scientific Advisory Council at the Institut für Weltwirtschaft at the University of Kiel, and a former Non-Executive Director of the Nottingham Health Authority and Queens Medical Centre Hospital Trust. Professor Greenaway's research interests are primarily in international trade, labour market adjustment, cross-border investment and trade policy. He continues to teach in The School of Economics.
Before joining The University of Nottingham in 1987, Professor Greenaway held appointments at Leicester Polytechnic and the University of Buckingham. He took up his first position at Nottingham in 1987 as Head of the Department of Economics. He served as a Pro-Vice-Chancellor from 1994-2001, and was closely involved with the development of the University's Jubilee Campus, and the establishment of the National College of School Leadership.
Chief Executive Officer
A veteran of the Asia Pacific telecommunications industry, Nick Hutton is the Chief Executive Officer of U21Global and has proven experience in building businesses across the region. His previous role at RGB Networks was Vice President, Asia Pacific. Prior to that, Hutton was based in Shanghai as Chief Marketing Officer at Alcatel Asia Pacific and was responsible for the overall management of marketing and communications programmes in Asia Pacific to build the company's business in the region.
Earlier, Hutton was Vice President, Asia Pacific, for 3Com subsidiary CommWorks Corporation, where he was responsible for setting up and leading a team to grow the company's carrier business across the region. Prior to CommWorks, he served as Vice President/General Manager of the Alcatel/Newbridge Internetworking Division for Asia Pacific, where he established strong relationships and worked closely with major telecom operators. Hutton's career also includes a successful 15-year stint at Apple Computer, where he was Director of Sales & Marketing for Asia, based in Hong Kong and Singapore.
He holds a degree in Business Management from Oxford Brooks University in the UK.
University of Melbourne
Ian Marshman was appointed senior vice-principal at the University of Melbourne in 1999, where he is responsible for the management of the university's annual planning, budgeting, reporting and quality assurance programmes. He also oversees the audit, compliance and external reporting accountabilities. Mr Marshman joined the ranks of the University of Melbourne's senior management team in 1990 when he was appointed Registrar (Academic). Over the years, he has played major roles in the reform of the university's administration, implementation of new administrative systems and processes, development of the Melbourne Scholarships programme and significant expansion of support services for students.
Mr Marshman's experience in the Australian Public Service is just as impressive. He has served in various appointments in a variety of Commonwealth departments. In 1986, Mr Marshman was appointed regional director in the North Eastern Metropolitan Region of the then Victorian Health Department, where he exercised major planning, financial management and accountability responsibilities in respect of a region with a budget of A$500 million and a population of 1.1 million people. Mr Marshman is currently Chair of the Management Committee for Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre and Director on the Melbourne University Pty Ltd Board. He is an auditor for the recently-established Australian Universities Quality Agency.
Manipal Education and Manipal Group
M. Chandrasekaran is the corporate advisor to Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG). He is also an advisor to 3i Infotech, a subsidiary of the ICICI Bank, IDFC Private Equity and Blue River Capital. He is also on the board of MEMG, 3i Infotech (Singapore), Ujwal Management Services and Merittrac Services.
He has been a mentor to start-ups in the venture capital field and technology companies in the software arena. He is the founder and executive chairman of technology start-up Impulsesoft, a provider of short range wireless solutions, which was acquired in 2005 by SiRF Technologies, a NASDAQ listed company.
Mr Chandrasekaran has previously served as an advisor and/or on the board of several fast-growing companies in India including Sasken, Aztec and Aditi Technologies, helping them with governance and organisational building. He was also previously an advisor to ChrysCapital.
He has been one of the prime movers of the PGSM programme for working IT professionals at IIMB and the Advanced Masters Programme In Management of Globally Distributed Work launched recently by the Globally Distributed Work Foundation. He was a member of the core group formed by the Government of Karnataka which conceptualised the setting up of the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore and has also been a guest faculty at IIMB. He writes regularly on corporate matters.
Mr Chandrasekaran has a degree in engineering from College of Engineering, Guindy and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad).
Managing Director and CEO
Based in Bangalore, Anand Sudarshan is the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Manipal Education, a leading player in education and healthcare in India.
Prior to his current position, Mr Sudarshan was President, Adea International (a wholly owned subsidiary of Adea Solutions, Inc) and was responsible for all global businesses outside of the US. He took on this position after successfully leading Netkraft Pte Limited as CEO to a merger with Adea Solutions, Inc. in 2004. At Netkraft, Mr Sudarshan was instrumental in turning the company around and leading it to profitability in the very first year under his watch.
In 1989, Mr Sudarshan co-founded The Microland Group and for about 14 years, he was involved in building it to become a leading privately held technology company. As CEO, he was responsible for defining the strategy and technology roadmap of the group, establishing the infrastructure and services business, and managing its software company. Mr Sudarshan has extensive industry experience, having served also in several capacities at Computer Point India Limited, and Nelco, a Tata Group company.
Mr Sudarshan is a highly sought after speaker at industry and technical events in Asia, Europe North Africa and the US. He was a contributing author at leading trade publications and was named as one of the top ten stars in the Indian IT industry by Dataquest. He is also a lead assessor and jury member in quality initiatives of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), including the prestigious CII-EXIM Award for Business Excellence, the Indian equivalent of the Malcolm Baldridge Award.
Over the last two decades, Mr Sudarshan has remained committed to education. Before moving into the sector full-time, he has served on governing bodies of educational institutions, with particular focus on taking higher education beyond metropolitan cities to other parts of India.
Mr Sudarshan has a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Trichy, University of Madras (formerly known as the Regional Engineering College, Trichy), and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.
